Regional workshops were held to propose and identify road infrastructure projects in the Southwest region of Cameroon. Councils and delegations from relevant ministries gathered to brainstorm solutions for improving road networks in the country, with a focus on the Southwest.
Participants developed a list of ongoing projects and new initiatives to be included in the 2025 budget. The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Public Works, urged mayors to prioritize and improve road infrastructure management as part of the ongoing decentralization process.
The working session included mayors from different municipalities, regional and divisional delegates from the Southwest region, and representatives from the Ministries of Public Works, Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), and Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEVEL).
Projects were classified based on importance, considering factors such as the completion of ongoing projects, potential traffic disruption points, access to production areas, and inter-municipality projects. Over 150 projects were identified, including ongoing projects and bridges. Technical files are available for more than 30 newly proposed projects.
Some of the listed projects include:
• Botanic Gardens council road to GHS Limbe (0.55 km)
• Maintenance of communal road from Dubai center to Wotutu road (0.8 km)
• Mokindi-Limbe I council road (1.3 km)
• Bodende-Mokundange-Limbola-Batoke road (8.5 km)
• Idenau-Scipio-Rogeflorse-Sanje road (7.5 km)
• Tarring of road from Bocom mile 16 to small Soppo (9.837 km)
• 2×2 lane from Bokwaongi to Bonjongo (10.875 km)
• Various other road construction and rehabilitation projects throughout the region
Over 30 ongoing road projects were identified, with some projects’ physical progress at 0%. These projects are financed by the Public Investment Budget (PIB) of the Ministry of Public Works and the Road Fund, with resources transferred to the councils.
The workshop aims to improve road infrastructure in the Southwest region of Cameroon, supporting local development and connectivity.
